How is your 2020 plan going?
As Mike Tyson famously said, “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face”.
Over the last decade, we’ve heard of numerous ‘2020’ plans from companies large and small. Apparently, a lot of ‘strategically-minded people’ (i.e. the usual suspects) felt strongly that 2020 (an oft-mentioned and numerically tantalizing year) should mark some kind of transformation and achievement against the corporate milestones. A number of sizeable companies have even devoted senior teams, and in some cases, expensive consultants, to deliver on this ’20:20 vision’ of management. These have been beavering away to deliver on their ambitious visions, more comfortably promised by others, often since departed, a few years ago.
After 2000 and now 2020, what will be the next ‘tripping year’? Perhaps 2030 or 2040, but they won’t match 2020 in stature. My money will be to own in 2050. Time to start working on the new ‘BHAG’s and 2050 goals! After all, well be long gone by then.
